Summer Races

Summer 2012: Best summer of my life.

Trying to make the rest of my year as euphoric and the summer.

I also races Highlands Sky 40 Miler and got 3rd woman in a time of 7:57 or something like that. It was one of the toughest races I've ever run; definitely ran like a 50 miler. It was also the most beautiful race ever, though, so that totally balanced it out! Physically, I felt pretty good during the run. I felt like I was going to throw up for the first 20 miles, but then started running with this incredibly nice and REALLY COOL woman named Tina and we basically ran the last 20 miles together. Getting 3rd was unreal, to say the least. I wore that Top 5 vest for a week.

The next weekend - as in 6 days later - I found myself that the pre-race dinner for Eastern Divide 50k, the first running of a new local 50k course, about 20 minutes for Blacksburg. A few of my friends and my boyfriend were running it, so I just decided to tag along. However, I found myself cournered, fourced to accept a free entry into the race.....I accepted. My legs were still tired from Highlands. So with 11 hours to prepare myself for another ultra, I ate carbs and went to bed. And at 7:30am the next day I was on the start line. I actually felt good and ran mostly with ledgend Rick Gray, who also ran Highlands the previous weeked. We ran together until about mile 20, then I decided to take off and "sprint" the rest. I finished 4th woman (though the entry I took was a mans, so Scotty Dwyer finished 4th woman!) in 5:25 or so.

The rest of the summer was bliss.

More on Cheat Mountain Moonshine Madness 50 Miler later, I have mineralogy class now.
