HELLO!
It's been a while! Sometimes I decide to put a million servings of BUSY on my plate and then become overwhelmed with everything and decide not to do any of it.
But I'll always be running! Anyways.
After the Georgia Death Race, I felt like I was invincible and could complete any distance and any race I wanted. It took me about a week and a half to feel totally back together after GDR, so I had 3 weeks of maintanence before Promise Land 50k+. This year was my 4th time attending PL, and 3rd consecutive year of running. PL was my first ultramarathon in 2011, when I was a wee 16 year old lass, so I will always hold this event near and dear to my heart. Last year I placed 5th and PL, and this year I just slogged along exhausted from my 21 credit hour semester (see? too many thing on my plate) and two job. This sums up my time at PL:
 |
2010, me plus mom (her 2nd ultra) plus some guy we were friends with..idr his name |
 |
2011, me NERVOUS before my first ultra |
 |
2012, like "apple orchard? this ain't no thang!" comfortably cruisin in 5th place |
 |
2013, running on no sleep, like "who the heck signs up for 21 credit hours? oh, ME..." |
So that was a fun photo journey, right?! After PL I took a little break and finished the semester pretty well. I signed up to take Organic Chemistry (lecture and lab) for the first 6-week session. Short Story: IT WAS REALLY DIFFICULT BUT I PASSED WITH A B+. Somewhere during that trip, I raced Eastern Divide 50k for the second time. RACED. I wanted to run so hard I would run out all my stress from ochem. I must have, because I managed to finish 2nd place woman in a time of 5:01! (and beat Fletcher by 5 minutes tehe) If I had worn a watch I would have made myself break 5 hours, aha. Here's some pictures!

Finish! 2nd, 5:01! |
 |
Top 3 women! The girl to my left (3rd place - her first ultra!) is also a Hokie! |

ME AND FLETCHER <3 |
I haven't felt like I've had a structured training regime in about a year now. I hope that this coming fall semester will bring some training (and motivation) back into my running routine. So far, I'm only signed up for Iron Mountain 50 miler (Aug 31)...but thoughts of doing the 50 mile at the Trilogy in WV are floating around, as well as a few races in TN. Hellgate 100k+ has been a definite in my mind since February, however the plans for that may change. I have recently had the honor being able to submit an abstract to the American Geophysical Union on the research I am doing with a professor in my department. I'm studying the effect of subsurface microbes on chemical concentrations in fluids flowing out of hydrothermal systems, particularly those considered greenhouse gases. It's REALLY COOL! I'll be doing a poster presentation at the fall meeting in San Francisco! I'm first author on this project, and as an 18 year old rising junior is about the coolest thing that has ever happened to me academically. HOWEVER the fall meeting is (get this) December 8th-13th...and as all of us ultrarunners know, Hellgate is scheduled to begin at 12am on the 14th...sooooo I may not be able to do it...But thats okey! I still want to TRAIN and be in shape for it. If I can't, it ain't no thang, because being able to present my own research to tens of thousands of the worlds most reknown geoscientists/physicists/chemists/marine scientists is such an AMAZING opportunity, I would be a damn fool to mess that up.
Hmmm so other than all that I've just been working at the farmer's market for a local bakery and running the student garden on campus

my garden! |
Well I think that's enough. Happy trails!
